The numerous dog breeds available today are as a result of breeders interbreeding different dog breeds so as to come up with different dog breeds that have better physical appearance and temperaments than their parents. Most dog breeders breed different dog breeds to come up with a dog breed that best suits the need of their customers.

Today dogs are mainly used as companion or as guard dogs. Companionship and guarding are not the only ways a dog can become useful, Dogs can also make great runners; however not all dogs can make great runners. Most running dogs were mainly used as hunting dogs since they could run very fast and catch up with the prey. Most of these dogs make great hunting dogs. The Greyhound is one of the fastest dog breed that can run at speeds of 40-45 miles per hours. The Greyhound is great in short runs since it does not have much endurance for long runs.
