Overview

The common dog breeds are classified as popular dog breeds depending on the number of registered dogs of a certain breed in Kennel Club round the world. The common dog breeds are of different sizes and comprises of the small dog breeds, medium dog breeds and large dog breeds. Other people refer to them as the favorite dog breeds. Generally the common dog breeds are determined by the number of that dog breed that is registered after having certified all the pure breeds’ requirements by respective Kennel club. It is common amongst dog breeders to register their dogs with the Kennel club since it is the best way to determine whether their dog is a pure breed for a certain breed. For breeders it is necessary and part of requirement of the breeding process. When writing this hub I considered the list of common dog breeds in the popular kennel clubs for me to come up with the list of 32 most common dog breeds.

These are dogs that are either used for guarding due to their temperament. They are also dogs that are easy to train although they may not be so easy to handle. In most cases these dogs will be used for patrolling purposes, drug detection, retrieval and life saving missions.

Do you have children?

If YES, there are common dogs breeds that are not good for kids. You should consider a dog breed like the Labrador retriever since it is one of the best dogs with kids. There are other dogs that are good for children especially the toy breeds are ideal for small children. It is advisable you take time to understand the relation of each of the common dog breeds with children.

Do you have a large house or spacious apartment?

If you have a large house or a spacious apartment you will be comfortable having a large dog in your house. If you live in an apartment that is limited in the space you should consider small dog breeds that are common and good for apartment lifestyle.
